is also desirable to obviate the risk of a water famine
in the event of any of the conduits being injured by a
landslip or other accident which would cause an interrupt-

The British Section of the
Kowloon-Canton Railway was opened for public traffic on
the 1st. of October this year, and it is estimated that

the traffic receipts from next year's working will amount
to $107,000. This is, of course, a guess estimate. The
amount chargeable to the revenue of the Colony on account
of the Railway for the same period is estimated to be
$511,276. It cannot be hoped that this work will be
remunerative for many years to come.
